Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield
"The Positive Place for Kids"
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield provide programs that guide and direct youth from all backgrounds with special concern for those children from at-risk circumstances. Through social, physical, educational, and leadership development programs, the Clubs teach these deserving youth the values of life and make them better citizens of our community.
Queen City Sertoma Club supports the Boys & Girls Club through a variety of ways, to include health and educational programs, "back to school" supplies, holiday celebrations, volunteering, and more.
National Heritage:
|
In February each year, Queen City Club participates in Sertoma's "National Heritage" month by presenting special programs for the Boys & Girls Club kids that promotes patriotism and citizenship. In 2005 Queen City Club created a National Heritage Scholarship to complement this program.

Christmas to Remember:
|
Originally sponsored by the Heart of the Ozarks Club, this annual event is now supported by club members from many of the Clubs in Springfield. Each year members sponsor and share in the Joy of Christmastime with children from the Springfield Boys & Girls Clubs. Children enjoy dinner and caroling as they wait for the arrival of Santa Claus. It is a blessing to share in the joy of these delightful children as they open gifts from Santa!

Power of Music:
|
Since 2004 Queen City has awarded more than $50,000 in funding to the Power of Music program. The program originated in 1998 with singer and musician Bonnie Raitt. It began as a "guitar program" designed to bring music to underprivileged kids through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Its subsequent success led the Boys & Girls Clubs to expand the program to a full music curriculum. Through the support of Queen City Sertoma Club and other community sponsorships, the Boys & Girls Clubs have had great success in growing this program in the Springfield community.

Teen Fashion Show:
Other Financial Contributions: |
Each year we take teens from the Boys & Girls Club to buy outfits and accessories which they get to show off in a fashion show! Teaching them how to buy on a budget empowers these kids to know they can look good, no matter what their income level!
Queen City Sertoma Club's other financial contributions include $15,000 in 2002 for the Teen Center during the new construction of Boys & Girls Club - Stalnaker unit. We also collaborate along with the other Springfield area Sertoma Clubs in shared contributions to the Springfield Boys & Girls Clubs, funded with proceeds from the annual Sertoma Chili Cook-off. |
Volunteering:
|
Individual volunteer opportunities abound at the Boys & Girls Clubs as well. For more information on how to get involved, visit the Boys & Girls Club website here.
|
Sertoma Affiliates Program:
|
As a QC Sertoma Affiliate, the Missouri State University Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic is partnered with Queen City Sertoma to receive discounts, added funding for programs, and educational scholarships for its professional staff. MSU partners with Queen City Club each summer to promote Sertoma's National Service Projects - SAFEEars and A Sound Investment. Students from the Clinic donate their time to provide educational programs and hearing tests to children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield.
